您有許多工作經(jīng)歷,并且每一段時間都不長,這是在您的規(guī)劃之中,還是只是在做嘗試?
You have lots of working experiences all of which seem to last only for several months. Is this in your plan or because you just keep trying?
Kaleb:
我認為比起設計院校的任何學位,工作經(jīng)歷能讓人成長更多。因此我意識到為了自己的成長,我需要不同環(huán)境和設計領域內的各種經(jīng)歷,所以我才在每個地方都待上幾個月,帶著這樣的目的去快速學習,獲得大量知識。
I think working experiences make you grow more than any other type of degree in a design school. Therefore I realize in order for me to grow, I needed various experiences in different environments and design fields, this is why I work for a few months in each place, I do it on purpose to learn fast but earing a lot of knowledge.

您有些作品靈感都來自傳統(tǒng)文化,請問文化在您的設計中扮演怎樣的角色?
Some of your works are inspired from traditional culture. What kind of role does culture play in your design?
Kaleb:
我的設計就是全都關于文化。文化是我生活的一大部分,我到處旅游的原因之一,在不同國家工作的主要原因,都是文化。不過我做的每個項目中,總是回到自己的根源之地,擁抱自己的文化。
Everything. Culture is a big part of my life, one of the reasons I travel, main reason why I work in different countries but always turning back to my roots and embracing my own culture in every project I do.

您覺得材料在設計中是什么作用呢?如何選材?
In your opinion, what is the impact of material in design? How do you choose material?
Kaleb:
材料可以為一個解決方案找到最好的方法。它可以使一個項目變得完美,但如果你沒有選恰當,就會毀了所有工作。我認為我們需要用那種能夠讓你的產(chǎn)品開發(fā)和最終解決方案變得更好的材料品質來進行設計。
Material sets the best approach to a solution. It can make a project perfect or ruin all your work if you don't choose properly. I think you need to design with the material qualities that actually make your development and final solution a better one.

您希望能為消費者提供公平、真誠而民主的解決方案,可以具體解釋一下嗎?
You mention “fair, honest and democratic answers to users needs”, can you explain it in details?
Kaleb:
我的意思是,我們必須將自己置身于用戶的位置,了解他們的需求。公平,指的是產(chǎn)品要讓每個人都能接觸得到,民主是因為總是需要考慮不同思維、心態(tài)等,而真誠則是指設計師應該要盡力做到最好。
I mean that we must put ourselves in the user shoes, understand his/her needs. Fair because it needs to be available for everyone, democratic because it should always consider different mindsets and honest because you should always do your best.

您有許許多多興趣愛好,像是人類學,多媒體,工藝材料,可持續(xù)等,平時如何從這些愛好中汲取靈感應用到設計中呢?
How do you get inspirations from your interests and employ them into your design since you got so many interests like anthropology, multimedia, sustainability, ect.?
Kaleb:
我的靈感主要來自每天的經(jīng)歷;來自其他設計師,來自家庭,行為,食物,電影,書籍……可以來自任何地方、任何事物。
My inspiration mainly comes from everyday experiences; from other designers, family, actions, food, movies, books… it comes from everything and everywhere.

您會多種語言,也在不同國家工作過,不同國家地區(qū)的設計思維對您自身在設計上有什么影響呢?
As we know you are capable of various languages and have been worked in different countries. What kind of impact does the design thinking in different countries or regions have on your own design?
Kaleb:
這就是理解人們并對他們的問題保持同理心對我來說很容易的主要原因之一。我相信當你能夠與不同文化背景、年齡和性格的人合作與交流時,你適應各種情況的能力就會飛漲。
This is one of the main reasons why understanding people and being empathic to their problems is so easy to me. I think when you′re capable of working and interacting with different cultures, ages and personalities, your adapting capabilities to every kind of situations grow exponentially.

墨西哥設計業(yè)為設計師們提供了怎樣的環(huán)境呢?
What kind of environment for designers does design industry provide in Mexico?
Kaleb:
不幸的是,墨西哥的設計并沒有像其他國家發(fā)展得那樣好,雖然也正在快速發(fā)展但是不比其他領域,因此設計師很難在一些代表我們國家變化的設計領域中成長或者發(fā)展。我們的責任就是要讓這個產(chǎn)業(yè)注意到設計所能帶給他們以及墨西哥的影響。
Unfortunately design in Mexico is not as developed as in other countries, it is growing fast but still not as important as other disciplines, therefore it is hard for designers to grow or develop in design fields that really represent a change in our country. It is our responsibility to make the industry notice the impact design can make on them and Mexico.

接觸過這么多不同的設計,有沒有打算專注一塊呢?
Having come across so many kind of design fields, are you going to focus on one?
Kaleb:
有的,戰(zhàn)略設計。我們必須改變思考的方式,并鼓勵他人,產(chǎn)生影響。無形的體驗和服務很有必要,而我們不需要更多的物質了,少不再即是多,越少越好,“少”對于地球的可持續(xù)是必需的。
Yes. Strategic Design. We must change the way we think and inspire others in order to generate impact. Intangible experiences and services are necessary, we don't need more objects, less is NOT more anymore, “l(fā)ess” is a necessity for this planet to be sustainable again.
